Ella Fitzgerald , Cantante estadounidense de jazz



Nació el 25 de abril de 1918 en Newport, Virginia. La mayor parte de su infancia transcurrió en un orfanato de Nueva York. Fue descubierta con dieciséis años en Harlem cuando cantaba en un espectáculo para jóvenes talentos. Entre 1934 y 1939 cantó con la Chick Webb Band, grupo que dirigió durante un tiempo tras la muerte de su líder en 1939. A mediados de los años cuarenta, trabajó con el empresario estadounidense Norman Granz y viajó por Europa y Asia con su Jazz at the Philharmonic. En 1958 actuó junto con el compositor estadounidense de jazz Duke Ellington en el Carnegie Hall de Nueva York. De sus últimas apariciones hay que destacar el concierto que ofreció en 1985, con motivo del Kool Jazz Festival, en el Carnegie Hall. Sus composiciones incluyen 'Oh, But I Do' y 'You Showed Me the Way', entre otras. Falleció el 15 de junio de 1996.
